Section 1: Getting Started...
Section 1.1: The Plone Content Management System (CMS)
A Content Management System (CMS) is an online system put into place for ease in generating and modifying content for a website.
Plone is
the CMS chosen by the Faculty of Social Sciences due to its ease of
use, high level of customization and functional expandability. The
low cost (free non-profit OpenSource project) and high level of
support through it's international community, makes this system a
sustainable and viable solution for our web editing needs.
Section 1.2: Internet Browsers
An
internet browser is a piece of software designed to display items on
the internet. There are many different brands of browsers and are
all marginally different in how they will display a webpage,
sometimes the difference can be great.
Though
the Plone CMS works well with displaying information uniformly across
many browsers, Faculty recommends using Mozilla Firefox
(www.getfirefox.com)
while editing any content, to get the optimal editing experience in
your browser.
