Section 5.2: Setting a page as a default view for a folder
When
a new sub-section in your left navigation has been created, it must
have a new page set as a default page to load for the public view.
Creating a new area in your site that will contain several other
pages within it, requires the creation of a folder, like the
undergraduate section of a particular program.
The name for
the individual page joined in connection with this folder or
sub-section is called a “default view” page. It's like having a
home page for a particular section of your website like the
aforementioned “undergraduate program” area. This way, when the
user clicks a certain area, they are brought to a single page, and do
not actually see the contents view of a folder.
To
set a single page as the default view for a folder:
Step 1: Navigate to a Folder, or create a new one to create a new sub-section to your left navigation
Step 2: Select the “contents” tab while on the new folder
Step 3:
Select the “display” option in the menu, and then click on
“select content item as default view” (Figure 5.3).
Step
4: Now Choose a page as the
default view. Save.
Now when the folder is viewed in “contents” one of the pages will shown in bold font. This is the default page.

Section 5.3: Creating New Sections
***Note: In order to create a new section, you must be familiar with the Folder Structure used to build in Plone. If you are not, make sure to refer to Section 4: Folder structures / site organization.
Step 1: Create a new folder, the name of this will be the name of the new sub-section link in your left navigation.
Step 2: Create new pages within the “contents” Tab in this new folder to populate the section (folder) with the sub-pages you wish to appear below your new section.
Step 3: Assign one of the pages created in Step 2 as the default view page. See Section 5.2.
