Fire Warden Info

Is this a Test?

Fire alarms occur for many reasons on the McMaster campus.  One of the most important things to remember is that all alarms should be treated as true emergencies.  Even a slight delay in evacuating a building could result in serious injury or worse.

There is one exception. Fire alarm systems must be checked on a regular basis.  In every building on main campus, a yellow sign at the front entrance indicates the day of the week and the time of day when your alarms are tested.  During this period the alarms will sound for 60 seconds and then silence. Occupants are not required to evacuate under this circumstance only. If the alarms ring for a period longer than 60 seconds, occupants should assume a real emergency is underway and evacuate the building via their closest exit.
