"Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”
-Quote from Nelson Mandela, anti-apartheid activist and winner of the Nobel Peace Prize in 1993.

Through these commitments, we hope to open your minds to new ideas and information, hone your critical analytic skills and provide you with the communication and research tools needed to understand and engage in the contemporary world. A degree in the Social Sciences provides you with the knowledge and tools needed for personal and career success, and to make a difference in our world.
What makes Social Sciences at McMaster so great? Students are taught by some of the leading Social Science researchers in their fields. Through our Inquiry courses, use of vod- and pod-casting, interdisciplinary programs and problem-based learning approaches, McMaster Social Sciences offers students an innovative educational experience. Students have an opportunity to learn in small group environments, and to apply this education to the world around them through experiential education.
Over the next months and years, I hope that you will take advantage of the many opportunities here on campus to excel in your studies, meet new friends, participate in student life, and explore new ideas.
