Career Placements

Career placements are unpaid job shadow experiences that provide exposure to various occupations/ professions in preparation for future careers. These placements allow you to spend 2-4 hours per week for 4-6 weeks shadowing various professionals within a host organization.

Career Placements provide an opportunity for you to:

    • be exposed to professionals that are currently working in a career field that is of interest;
    • increase your knowledge about various career options within a particular field;
    • make more informed decisions about whether a certain career is "right" for you;
    • see first-hand how your classroom learning can apply to work-related settings; and,
    • expand your network of contacts and build your resume.

Some of the things you may be doing while completing a placement include:

    • touring the work space;
    • shadowing the person while they complete work tasks;
    • sitting in on meetings and other work-related events/activities;
    • conducting 'information interviews' where you will be able to ask questions related to the role or field (e.g. relating to the education required, typical work hours,  work/life balance etc.); and,
    • meeting other staff within the area.

2011 - 2012 Career Placements

There is no limit on the number of Career Placement opportunities that a student can apply for, or accept within an academic year.

The first page of each application form is an information page containing placement details, which can be kept for your information.  It does not need to be submitted with your application.
