Undergraduate Opportunities

As an undergraduate in the Anthropology program, there are many opportunities available to students both on and off campus that are designed to provide hands-on learning opportunities and valuable experience for jobs after university and preparation for graduate studies.

Speaker's Series

Join members from the department every other Tuesday at 3:30 pm (CNH 607) to listen to research presented by visiting scholars  from other Universities.  Everyone, especially undergraduate students are welcome to attend.  Please see home page for speaker's series schedule.

ASK! Anthropology Skills and Knowledge

ASK! Is a mentor program run by the department's graduate students who volunteer their time to help answer any questions undergraduate students may have about their academic experience.  Graduate students from all fields of anthropology are available to provide information to undergrads on a range of topics from volunteering, to summer jobs, how to get into graduate school, and much more.

Experiential Education

All Social Science students have the opportunity to work with staff in the office of Experiential Education to apply for funds and programs that will provide learning experiences outside of the classroom.

Anthropology students have been awarded Student Project Grants to fund independent research and conference travel.  Other students have completed internships through Experiential Education by working in anthropology related fields such as professional archaeology, museology, government, and education.

Undergraduate Student Research Award (USRA)

Undergraduate Student Research Awards are intended to support research partnerships between faculty members and undergraduate students.  The Awards provide undergraduate students an opportunity to receive $6000 to cover 15 weeks of full-time research-based activity over the summer.
