Indigenous Health Research Development Program

The IHRDP was established in 2003 and was then known as an ACADRE Centre (Aboriginal Capacity and Development Research Environment) and was a jointly awarded project between McMaster University and the University of Toronto. In 2008, the IHRDP was successful in expanding and received new funding from CIHR (the Institute of Aboriginal Peoples Health) and is now known as one of nine Network Environments for Aboriginal Health Research (NEAHR). The NEAHRs are regional and national networks of Aboriginal health researchers. The IHRDP has investigators at McMaster, Lakehead University, the Northern Ontario School of Medicine, the University of Toronto and Trent University.  The IHRDP provides scholarships and/or research allowances for Ontario graduate students. We also provide funding for small community-based health research projects and funding for the development of proposals for larger health research grants.  The IHRDP provides graduate student and community researchers access to annual summer institutes addressing issues related to research with Aboriginal communities.  Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal students in Ontario who are interested in Aboriginal health research at the MA, Ph.D. and post-doctoral levels are eligible for scholarship and research support.  For further details go to: www.ihrdp.ca
